Monte d’Oiro Hotel Competition

It was conceived under 3 premises

1- Rest (The Hotel) Resting your body and mind

2- Connect (The Gathering Space) Connecting with others and the surroundings

3- Nurture (The Spa) Nurturing yourself

The shape of the Hotel is inspired by the segmentation of a Bird’s feathers juxtaposing with the terracing that allows the program to belong to that very specific location.

The shape and response of The Gathering space and Spa were highly informed and inspired by the concept of staring at the sunrise and sunset, as respectively facing east and west, while in a communal space creating special moments dedicated to observing the environment and understanding the surroundings informing the learning process about wine tasting and making while allowing for some level of introspectiveness to truly be part of the site and the experience.

The materials are kept to its honesty; mainly concrete with the belief in its powerful potential as carbon sequestrator as fabrication evolutionary step, stone as a means of connection with the vernacular present on site, reclaimed wood used as accent, glass purposely used to direct attention towards the Vineyard.

There is a variation amongst the roof materials between Terracotta tile to communicate with its immediate surroundings, and green roof over concrete.   PV Panels and water biofiltration system and retention water by the pools are designed to respond to environmental needs.

All to provide a place where all surroundings encourage a presence of mind that allows you enjoy your senses and taste a great glass of wine.

Multifamily Mixed Use Modular Construction

In 2016 I was approached by a young entrepreneur and developer who wanted to invest in his hometown, Owatonna MN by renovating a historic building to host his business and home. The ability to combine residential and commercial into the historic building became unfeasible but the combination of the commercial usage for the historic building and the residential development at close proximity became an attractive alternative for development.

In 2019 there was an opportunity to finish the concept development for the project.

Redesigning Detroit Competition.

The competition called for a street block development addition to  downtown Detroit in order to activate a historic building site and revive its memory - The Hudson’s site was home to the vibrant large Hudson’s department store which defined the retail corridor along Woodward ave. The proposed solution was developed as mixed use architecture combining Retail, Office Space, Amenities and Residences with a special component of urban agriculture - designated to spark and support commercial and residential needs.

Housing Competition

The competition called out for 3 single families homes or town homes located in Red Hook, a neighborhood of New York Brooklyn borough. Historically a dutch settlement village in the 1600 and later on a port and shipping yard.   The architecture response aimed at an efficient and compact solution maximizing the interaction with exterior while providing a contemporary response to some of the typical dutch architecture elements such as the use of a gambrel roof historically typical from the area .

Neighborhood Gentrification Research and prototype.

North of Massachusetts Avenue neighborhood (NOMA)  in Washington DC is one of the upcoming areas but still suffers side by side with the homeless population and gentrification.

This study aimed to have a clear pictured of the dynamics between the development of multifamily housing, gentrification and homelessness as a neighborhood development was taking place. The prototype suggests an architecture solution trough the lens of an inclusive environment with the intent to resolve the disparities.
